Kristie has worked in the California Workers’ Compensation system for 25 years; Insurance Claims Management, the developer of the first California Special Investigation Unit to attack workers’ comp fraud, a Special Assistant to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in insurance fraud, Managing City Attorney for Los Angeles Workers’ Compensation Fraud Unit, and Senior Partner defending a variety of Workers’ Compensation issues. She has successfully defended cases at trial attaining many dismissals and “Take Nothing” defense verdicts. She continues to package successful suspected fraudulent cases for criminal prosecution. As a former law enforcement officer, she has been very successful defending cases for the Los Angeles and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, as well as having a unique skill for investigating cases on behalf of her clients. She was the founding chair of the Employer Fraud Task Force, two-year Chair of the Insurance Fraud Division of the California District Attorney’s Associations and continues her membership in the State Bar Workers’ Compensation section and various anti-fraud organization.
Peter J. Karlzen, Attorney at Law
Peter is a Certified Workers’ Compensation Specialist through the California Bar Association, is a member of the State Bar Workers’ section, as well as a certified Workers’ Compensation Arbitrator with the State of California. Having focused most of his 23-year legal career in the defense of all types of workers’ compensation cases, he prides himself on having a one on one relationship with his clients. As being part of an in-house counsel for a large corporation, he has extensive experience in Health Care Organization and defending the use of them in court. It is not enough for him to focus on the defense of his clients, he meets his clients, encourages them to show him firsthand what they do for a living so he can truly step into their shoes when defending their interests. He has an impressive catalog of significant and trial verdicts and is renowned for his ability to reach settlements in cases that others never concluded. Rather than shy away from complex, high stakes issues, Peter takes ownership and succeeds in concluding it. When not defending a client, he lectures and gives training to adjusters, other attorneys, corporate officers and risk managers on his unique perspective on handling difficult claims.
